League Management

In order to Please use our site functionality, we ask that you create a "League" in our system for each league you would like to create Player Reports and CheatSheets for. Each league will allow to create specific rankings for that league. This allows the Player Reports and Cheatsheets to be customized based on each particular league's rules and setup. This also makes it easier for you to maintain multiple cheatsheets in our system for multiple leagues.

We allow you to create up to 5 leagues.
A typical use of this functionality would be the following example: Let's say you participate in two different fantasy leagues each year. One league is a re-draft league and another is a keeper league. They also have completely different scoring rules. Because of these things, you require two completely different cheatsheets for each league. Here's where our "League" functionality comes in.

In this scenario, the user would create two seperate leagues. This now allows them to input the scoring rules for each league and have 2 custom cheatsheets, one for each league.

To switch between leagues, simply choose the "Manage Leagues" link that is a global link in the upper right hand corner of every screen. This will take you to our "League Management" screen. From here, you can switch to a different league, or add, edit, or delete a league.

If you have any further questions about our "League" functionality, we ask that you contact us and we will respond to you as soon as possible.

My Rankings & Player Data

My Rankings - The My Rankings functionality of our website allows you, the user, to create your own rankings per position using our drag and drop player system. Once you create your own rankings, you have the ability to create Player Reports and Cheatsheets based on these rankings. You can simply use your own rankings, or combine your rankings with magazine data, Fantasy BrainTrust data, and other user data to create truly unique Player Reports & Cheatsheets based entirely on the data you deem important. This type of functionality is unique to the industry, and it is something we are proud to offer you as our customer.

Player Data - Our website makes available to you multiple sets of data for you to use. Instead of relying on one data set from a group of experts, you now can use multiple data sets depending on what you wish. Currently, we have 4 main groups of data available to you:

  1. Fantasy Magazine Data - We make available to you data from every fantasy football magazine that we review.
  2. My Rankings Data - We allow you to create your own rankings and include them into your overall player rankings, reports, and cheatsheet.
  3. User Rankings Data - We make available to you the rankings data from other users like yourself, and allow you to incorporate other people's rankings into your overall player rankings, reports, and cheatsheets.
  4. Fantasy Braintrust Data - Rankings Data from our trusted Fantasy Braintrust, our highly respected set of fantasy gurus who perPlease use our site, is also made available for you to include in your overall player rankings, reports, and cheatsheets.

Player Reports & Cheatsheets

Player Reports & Cheatsheets is the section of our website where your reporting needs are met. Here is where the data manipulation you performed in the "Player Data" tab comes into effect.

Player Reports are simply a position by position view of the Player Rankings you created using some or all of Your Rankings, Fantasy Magazine data, Fantasy Braintrust data, and other user data. You can choose which data you would like to use in the "Player Data" section of our website. Along with these data options, you also have the ability to include other fields on your Player Reports, such as ADP data, Min, Max, and Standard Deviation values.

The customizable "Cheatsheet" is simply a consolidation of all your Player Reports into one report, which we call a "Cheatsheet". It uses the exact same player data used in the Player Reports. One main difference between the Player Reports & Cheatsheets is that, because of the consolidated view of all positions, your options for additional columns is now limited to 3 on the Cheatsheet. On the Player Reports, all options available can be viewed.

Depending on how you draft and which you prefer, you might find each individual position Player Report more useful than the consolidated Cheatsheet. Or, you may find the Cheatsheet to be the best tool for you. Either way, the choice is yours.

If you have any further questions, concerns or comments about the Player Reports and Cheatsheets, please contact us.

Rankings & Report Headers
FMR Rankings This data is based on 2007 magazine data from the Fantasy Magazine Review site.
FBT Rankings This data is from the Fantasy Braintrust (FBT) advisory board members. It is currently only available to Fantasy Training Camp (FTC) subscribers.
User Rankings This data is the complete set of all FMR, FTC, and FBT user rankings - displayed in 10th percentiles when it is the only set selected. It is only available to users who do their own player rankings.
My Rankings This is your own personal player rankings done on our FMR site. This will eventually be a free feature for users of FantasyBrains.com.
Upside This number comes from the minimum rank that any "player ranker" gave that player. It represents an estimation of the "best" you can reasonably hope that player will rank by the end of the year.
Average This is the statistical mean of the current data set you are viewing. If you are viewing a custom data set it will be the average of the averages of each data set - unless you select the average of data points feature when adjusting your data set.
Downside This number comes from the maximum rank that any "player ranker" gave that player. It represents an estimation of the "worst" you can reasonably expect that player will rank by the end of the year.
Risk This number comes from the standard deviation (StDev). StDev is a statistical measure of how widely apread the data is (envision it as the width of a bell curve). Players with higher StDev are a higher "Risk" to end up at the "Average" rank. StDev is used by the financial services industry as a measure of risk of a stock or mutual fund - to show the fluctuation of the price - greater fluctuation means greater risk. In the fantasy world this fluctuation in opinions on a player's potential represents the certainty that a player will end up ranked at his "Average" rank.
Projection This is a prediction of fantasy points, using the "Standard Magazine Scoring" (SMS) and the Average Value Theory (AVT). SMS is 0.1 point per yard rushing and receiving, 0.05 for each yard passing, 4 pts for passing TD's and 6 pts for all other TD's, 1 pt per extra point and 3 per FG, and 1 per sack and 2 per turnover for defenses. AVT essentially says that rather than doing detailed projections every year you can get a reasonable approzimation of how many fantasy points each position (RB1, RB2, RB3) will score - by averaging the previous 3 years of data (in that scoring system of course). We have averaged the data for you using SMS and AVT. You will notice that the projections stay with the rank - not the player - this is the way AVT works. DO not trust these projections unless your scoring system is the same or very similar to SMS.
ADP This stands for Average Draft Position, which is the average spot that each player has been drafted in mock and actual fantasy drafts this summer. We will update ADP data all summer long using data from http://MyFantasyLeague.com.
Approximate Age This is the approximate age for each player - which either uses their birth year or year drafted to generate the approximate age. SOmetimes this age can be off by 1 or more years. Use it as a rough guage of a player's longevity potential as related to his past and previous performance. By itself this age data is useless - just use it as one small component of your analysis.
Bye Week The bye week of a player's NFL team for 2007.
Change The amount that the player's average rank has changed from June to July based on FBT Rankings data average. This will become the change thru August as of 8/14 when we post the new FBT data.

Magazine Reviews The magazine review page is a unique way to sort magazines based on certain weightings and criteria. We listed the overall score of each magazine in the “Overall Score” column, tabulating it by our criteria. When you click on one of the magazine titles, we take you to the magazines individual scoring.

Weights:
If you like to weigh the scoring based on a few sections of a magazine, you can use our “Weight” tool. In the row marked “Weight”, you can weigh each category on a 1-5 scale (5 being the most important). You must rank each category. If you don’t have a ranking for a category, weigh the category as 0. When you are done, press the “Create Scores” button. The magazines will be recalculated based on your preferences. If you would like to reset the rankings back to the original scoring, click on the “Reset” button.

Sorting:
To sort rankings based on a certain category, click on the category name and it will sort the rankings for you. For example, if you want to see magazine rankings based on Player Rankings, click on “Player Rankings” and it will order the magazines based on that category.

Magazine Awards
We give awards based on how a magazine ranks in each category. We are impartial and unbiased towards any magazine and ensure that we choose the best magazines for each particular category. We have spent countless hours figuring out which magazines deserve each award. We take many factors into play, most notably how a magazine scores based on our criteria. We also take into account our staff’s individual opinions of that magazine to pick the best magazine for each category. Once again, we are not attempting to favor any magazine. We are just trying to find the magazines that best fit each category.
